Long-term Opportunities:
·       Bloor-Lansdowne Community Dinner
Every Wednesday 4:30-8:30pm at Lansdowne station/ Need 6 – 8 volunteers to serve food
·       50/50
June 16th – Phillies game/ June 30th – Los Angeles Angels/ need 13 volunteers to sell draw tickets from 10:30-2pm
·       Harbourfront Centre
Attend 1 orientation to volunteer for various events/ Orientation dates – June 14, June 28, July 18, August 9/ Events in June – Franco-Fete, TD Jazz Festival, Dancing on the Pier, Canada Day, Free Flicks etc.
·       YMCA
Assist with Relay for Strong Kids / July 5th 2012, need 25 volunteers/ Water stations, registration, entertainment area, logistics etc.  6-11pm/ Honda Indy Track (Exhibition Place)/ orientation will be June 15th at school

Volunteer Info Session with Suzan this Friday, April 20th

Volunteer Information and Networking Session:

This Friday, Suzan will host a Volunteer Info Session to update you on new volunteer opportunities. You can also sign up for upcoming events.

Volunteer Opportunity on April 21st


On April 21st there will be a fundraising party at 918 Bathurst from 7pm-1am.
The party is to raise funds for Muhtadi's International Drumming Festival and 
will feature Afro-cuban drummers as well as Muhtadi's world drummers. Also,
there wil be salsa dancing. 

There will be a DJ, drumming performances, food, alcohol and dancing. 

I need 5 volunteers to help with set up from 3:30pm - 7:30 pm to help decorate
the place, arrange tables & chairs, set up food tables and make sure everything
is in place. They will have free access to the party after their shift and will be provided
with a free meal as well. 

I need 4 volunteers to help with the food service and make sure the food stations are
clean and tidy. They will be helping out during the event and will also help with clean
up after the party. Volunteers will need to arrive at 6pm and training will be provided 
onsite. Shifts wil start from 6pm - 1am or later depending on the crowd. 

I need 4 volunteers with smart serve (a certification to legitimately serve alcohol) to help out
at the bar - I will be volunteering at the bar serving drinks and plan to have 3-4 hour shifts
each. There will be at least 2 bartenders (alcohol servers) at all times and any training 
needed will be provided onsite.

    Pride is the largest event for LGBTTIQQ2SA and the community where 1800 volunteer positions are available. There are various shifts and roles over the weekend including helping out with the parade, setup,festival, donations and may more varying from 4 hour shifts to 8 hour shifts.

    • Toronto Art Expo April 19-22
    This is an international art and cultural event with over 200 artists and galleries represented from 12 countries. It is held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Tickets are $10 with student ID. 
    Suzan will be going on the 22nd if anyone else wishes to join in and go together - 10+ and the tickets are $8.

    • Toronto Comicon April 14-15
    This is a comic world related event with famous people from Star Trek, Star Wars and many other comic-related characters and actors. There will be a lot of people in costumes and trade show booths with people selling unique items.
    Suzan will be going to this event as well if you are interested in going together - the tickets are $30 online

  •  50/50 Ticket Sales for Toronto Marlies on April 8th to benefit Kidsport!  7 spots available. 
  • Doors Open Toronto: Saturday May 26th and Sunday May 27th: a fantastic opportunity to be an ambassador for Toronto meet new people and to learn more about the architecture in the city.  Please Note: In order to attend  the Doors Open Toronto’s activity you must be in level 500 or higher, have good communication skills, and fill in the application forms. Please drop by room D304 and get a Doors Open Toronto volunteer application form from Kurt, the Peer Leaders or Suzan or email Kurt: kaydiner@hotmail.ca Please Note: There will be a mandatory orientation for this event on Tuesday, April 24th at City Hall, 100 Queen Street West, at Queen and Bay 6:30pm to 8:30pm and you will be interviewed for this opportunity.

Week 3 Updates

Week 3 Check-In:  
Have you started to take advantage of all of the supports available to you?  Don't wait til it's too late!!  Improve your skills NOW!
  WoW! TAKE A LOOK AT ALL OF THE SUPPORTS AVAILABLE TO YOU:
1.  Visit our Peer Leaders in D304A for support--don't wait until the last minute!  Come early to ensure your success.  Below, see the workshop schedule  or start your own study group!
 2.  The Tutoring Learning Centre is available for English Language  and Math Support.  The TLC is located in Building C, room C503 and is open from 9:30 to 5:30 daily.   
3.  Tutoring with TESL teachers is available in the ESL Library, D313.  Drop by every Tues and Thurs at 12pm  for English practice.
